Research Areas and Themes
My research explores how religious and cultural differences are constructed, negotiated, and experienced in contemporary Japanese society, with a particular focus on their implications for multicultural and intercultural education. It also examines questions of belonging and identity, and is grounded in community-based and fieldwork-oriented educational practices in Hiroshima. Related areas of research include cultural representation, heritage, and tourism.

Message to Prospective Students
In my courses, we explore together how cultural and religious differences are created and understood in society. Through discussion and fieldwork, students reflect on their own ideas and develop the ability to engage with difference.
